Whiny Little Bitches
I know the headline is not politically correct, but I just couldn’t find a better way to express my anger about a story I heard from a friend.
She was reported to HR by a co-worker because the word and tone she used in response to a question was not satisfactory to the whiny little . . .
Her story resonated with me because the same thing happened to me a few months ago, and I’ve heard the story many times from people working in today’s corporations.
GROW UP! HR is not your mommy. Stop running to HR every time you don’t get the game show host smile and sweet tones that you think are your birthright.
Today’s corporations are pressure cookers wringing out as much energy as they can from the workers. People are stressed. They have toxic managers who have never learned the fine art of human relations. They’re not going to light up with joy every time you walk into the room, call them on the phone, or send an email. Just get over it.
If it really bothers you that much, handle it yourself like a grown-up.
When mommy handles your problems, the relationship becomes even worse. The behavior stops, but the resentment lingers and grows. Mommy just puts people in relationship straight jackets so they can’t be genuine and authentic with each other.
When you handle a problem by having a conversation, the relationship often improves. You may even develop a new friend.
If you can’t resolve the situation yourself, then it might be time to go to HR. Or, it might be time to look within yourself to discover why you’re so intolerant and judgmental of others.
Just so you won’t report me to HR for using an objectionable word, let me say that the headline word is gender-neutral in this context.
