Once again the news is filled with the horror of another school shooting. Sad faces, thoughts and prayers, shock and outrage.
Reality is too much to bear, so we turn to the virtual reality that the multi-billion entertainment industry provides - more violence and blood, all in high-definition 4k detail.
Has it ever occurred to anyone that we use guns and violence as entertainment? Every night on TV, we see guns blazing, blood spattering, and conflicts resolved through violence.
Clint Eastwood’s words, “Go ahead, make my day” as the camera moves in for a close-up of his pistol that makes it look like a cannon have become a classic meme in our culture.
How can a culture that entertains itself with violence, not be a violent culture?
When that ego-driven phrase, “MY rights,” takes precedence over “OUR rights,” it might be time to look at our culture through clear eyes, not clouded by our self-interest, and do something for the good of all.
