The Unadorned Self
It was my 80th birthday, and I ran naked down the beach with six naked women.
It was one of the most liberating moments of my 80 years.
I used to run around naked about 78 years ago, but society and my own ego have hidden me behind my clothes.
I will always be grateful for those women who shucked their inhibitions along with their clothes and said, “Let’s do it.”
Nudity is liberating. It’s not sexual. In fact, it might be one of the most non-sexual things you can do.
The unadorned self stands there without the protection of position, income, reputation or any other superficial disguises that we adopt to satisfy our ego and impress others and says, “This is who I am.”
I know that’s a terrifying thought for many people, and I respect that. We were only a small group of people who ran down the beach. Most of the others said, “No way!”
Watch the movie, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande. It can help us deal with the shame that many of us feel about our bodies.
