I know it's not politically correct these days to assign specific characteristics to men or women, but after 81 years of observing people, I've noticed one distinct difference - the way we say goodbye.
How women say goodbye
I've observed a four-stage process women typically go through when leaving and saying goodbye. It usually takes about 30 minutes.
Stage One - She reaches for her purse and may even pick it up, saying, "Honey, I think it's time for us to head out." However, the conversation continues and doesn't show any signs of ending.
Stage Two - After several minutes, everyone stands up at the same time. It's like there's an unspoken signal that it's time to move on to the next stage. Yet, the conversation continues, with no indication of wrapping up, as everyone slowly makes their way towards the door still fully immersed in a lively conversation full of energy and mutual affection.
Stage Three - The front door. At this point, someone starts a new conversation that takes on a new life. They don't return to their seats. They stay by the door. It’s the end of the evening, but they’re becoming more energized and animated. Then, the host might say, "Oh, let me show you something." That's when the guys return to their chairs and fix themselves another drink.
Stage Four - The front door opens, and everyone walks out to the car. The guy gets in the driver's seat, feeling a sense of relief, while the women start yet another conversation at the open car door. The guy starts the car as a gentle hint but usually gives up and turns it off to protect the environment and save gasoline.
How men say goodbye - "Goodbye."
