Black History Month
We’re at the end of Black History Month, 2023.
There’s a move in large parts of the population to erase significant parts of Black history. What a strange way to celebrate Black History Month.
Books are being banned in some states. Even a book about Rosa Parks. I’ve read that it makes some people uncomfortable. I’m sure that’s true.
The story of Jesus’s crucifixion always made me uncomfortable as a child. In fact, it still does today as an 80-year-old adult. Why didn’t we erase that uncomfortable fact from history?
Because it meant something! It still means something today. It’s an enduring lesson about the suffering of humanity and our ability to overcome it.
When we forget, erase, or remain ignorant about history, we are certain to repeat it.
