I am delighted to announce that I will begin a new job on March 11. As part of the onboarding process, I underwent a standard background check, customary for most corporations. If my background check had revealed a conviction for sexual assault, defamation, fraud, or 91 pending indictments, I am confident I would have been rejected. As a former HR Director, I understand why a corporation would be reluctant to hire a convicted felon or someone facing multiple trials.
However, a man with a background check similar to the one I described has been nominated for the world's most complex, challenging, and consequential job. What's wrong with this picture? Have we lost sight of our values, morality, and critical thinking? I feel as if I’m living in an alternate universe where the rules I have respected all my life have been arbitrarily suspended based on expediency.
There's a question we should all grapple with, not only in politics but also in life: What is non-negotiable? If we're detached from principles, everything becomes negotiable. Commitment to principles, whether religious, moral, or constitutional, limits our freedom to act solely on emotion.
Anarchy is a concept in which there is no central authority. In anarchy, there's no one in charge, so everyone is responsible for themselves. It's like a big playground with no teachers or rules, where everyone has to figure out how to get along on their own. Are we moving into a world of individual anarchy where there is no central authority in each individual’s mind bigger than themselves?
Does anyone have a rational explanation for why so many people would want a person with this background to be the President of the United States, regardless of political affiliation?
i believe it boils down to some people are completely ignorant and neither read nor listen to the frightening things that are being said. i am completely terrified of where we seem to be heading.
I feel the long-term Russian disinformation campaign, the algorithms of social media, the lack of a trusted and truthful newsman like Walter Cronkite all contribute to people acting on fear and emotions, not believing facts and believing conspiracy theories. It's baffling, horrific, scary and really inexplicable.
