An Antidote for Everything
In the movie, Camelot, young King Arthur was sitting in the woods talking to Merlin. His life was not going well. He asked Merlin, “What do you do for sadness?” Merlin replied, “Learn something.’
When life goes wrong, we tend to ask the wrong questions. All too often the questions are: What’s wrong with me? or What’s wrong with you.” or “What’s wrong with the world?” The question we should be asking is, What do I need to learn?
Learning is an antidote for everything because everything is a lesson.
Life is trying to teach us a lesson. But, we’re going through life as we went through school - not paying attention, daydreaming, goofing off, and barely getting a passing grade. When we got in trouble, it was easy to blame someone else. The last thing we did, if we ever did it all, was to reflect on the situation and experience transformative learning.
Of course, this isn’t true for everyone. There are many great students of life, but too many of us are wandering around in that liminal space not knowing what to do with our life.
It that’s you, become a life-long learner and start asking yourself, “What do I need to learn?”
If you’re well into your second half of life, you can become a long-life learner.
